The PHRG and the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, together with many human rights organisations and defenders*, invited Parliamentarians to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UDHR, to express solidarity with those defending these rights and those who do not benefit from them, and to find out more about the work of the organisations and defenders, as well as challenges they face.

Short statements of support were made by:

  • FCDO Minister Lord Ahmad;

  • Labour Shadow FCDO Minister, Catherine West MP;

  • former UK Ambassador to the UN and UN APPG Co-Chair, Lord Hannay;

  • BGIPU Chair Karen Bradley MP; and

  • PHRG Chair Tony Lloyd MP.

We would like to thank the many Parliamentarians who attended and engaged with the participating NGOs and HRDs.

*Participating Organisations: ABColombia; Amnesty International UK; Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines; Freedom from Torture; Peace Brigades International UK; Prisoners of Conscience Charity; Survival International; Survivors Speak Out; University of York - Protective Fellowship Scheme for Human Rights Defenders
